Mobile Automated Teller Machines (MATM’s) have revolutionized the banking industry by offering the customer instant access to their funds when and wherever needed.
With banks implementing more advanced solutions on their MATM’s to prevent against card-skimming, criminals frequently turn to alternative exposed areas of these MATM’s: their communication lines which use the open world of the Internet with all the threats this entails.
Although the communication between a bank’s base station and the bank are frequently highly secure or at least very hard to access, the communication between the MATM and the base station is far less secure.
By using wireless signals or simple modem lines, criminals can often easily tap into the communication and manage to manipulate relevant sensitive data.
The TrustAlert solution can provide mobile ATM’s with a highly secure, easy to implement, unique identity and encryption solution, making any intercepted data unreadable and impossible to manipulate on the part of criminal parties.
Each MATM runs on hardware which can generate a unique hardware fingerprint (hardwareID).
The TrustAlert RESEPT solution uses a hash of this unique hardwareID to identify the MATM and provide daily new unique digital identities with an X.509 certificate. This allows any data to be sent by the MATM either securely signed or fully encrypted.
Whichever RESEPT implementation is chosen, the result is that any intercepted data will be totally unusable to any criminal party trying to access the ATM’s communication.
